Dragonflies are quite impressive creatures. We watch them flying behind the house, catching all sorts of insects. Hopefully mostly mosquitoes. When pursuing an insect in flight, they fly with their legs stretched out in front of them, and they catch their prey in their outstretched legs.
I have read about this, but I was amazed when going through the photos I took, that I was able to capture this process. The above photos are two consecutive shots. In the first photo, you will see this dragonfly in pursuit of a smaller insect. In the second photo, the dragonfly has the insect captured in its legs.
Sometimes in photography, it’s better to be lucky than good. The quality of these photos isn’t the best because they are cropped in quite significantly, but in this situation I think the content is better than the quality. I’m glad I was able to take these photos.
