Square One: Refocusing On What’s Important

When I started this website it was a way to help people struggling with depression, or another mental illness, by teaching skills like woodworking and photography, and by offering encouragement through posts or the podcast. And honestly, it has been a struggle. It has not had the reach that I hoped it would, and as a result I have looked at many different ways to attract viewers.

In order to expand, I have spent countless hours looking into SEO (search engine optimization), marketing my products, YouTube and podcasting algorithms, and the list goes on. But what this has really done is redirect my attention elsewhere.

One thing I have noticed, though, in my search for assistance is this overpowering need for people to lift themselves up by tearing each other down. Which is exactly the opposite of what I am trying to work toward. And I don’t want to get sucked into that.

Instead of researching to find out what everyone else is doing so that I might mimic them, I’m going to just keep doing what it is that I intended to do in the first place. I will continue with woodworking and photography, and I will continue to show how I use those to improve my own mental health. I will use the posts and YouTube videos as an avenue to get that information out. And I will continue selling my products as well as any custom woodworking projects you all might have. But these won’t be the main focus of what I’m doing (except custom projects – which come first).

So what is my main focus, you might ask? Working toward improving the mental health of the people around me, which is you all.
