Time to Speak Up For the Outcasts

What was originally planned as one post is now going to be (at least) two. Saying everything I wanted to originally turned out to be more than I want to have in a single post. And probably way more than you want to read. You’re welcome.

I have been very open about my own struggles with depression, and my recent diagnosis of autism. And though I don’t think I have any argument for trying to be a “spokesperson” for the neurodivergent community, I do feel the need to address the issues I’ve seen lately.

The Internal Struggle

Over the years I’ve had this website, I’ve worked through many different avenues to communicate with people struggling with their mental health. I’ve also asked myself what business I have talking to anyone about improving their mental health, let alone giving advice.

For quite a while, the podcast and YouTube channel were neglected. I’ve been dealing with my own struggles, including working my way through an autistic burnout recovery course. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I also have ADHD because during that time I’ve also tried a bunch of different strategies for the website, business, etc.

So It Isn’t Just Me?

When I got back to recording videos, focusing on what my new diagnosis meant for my life, I got some good feedback. But while the feedback was good, the underlying storyline was not.

It seems that many autistic people (and allistic people as well) feel cast aside by the church. I’ve heard several people discuss their own stories of being told, “You need to…” “You should…” “You shouldn’t…” “Why don’t you just…” etc.

This is heartbreaking to say the least.

Instead of sitting around complaining about it, I’ve decided to speak up. And that’s what I’m doing. I started creating more video podcast episodes which are available pretty much anywhere you can get podcasts, as well as on YouTube.

I won’t be sending out an email for every video or post I create, but I hope to have them out regularly. Posts will also go up with regular topics, and the plan is to have the posts correlate with the podcast and videos.

So with that said, please continue to follow along as we lift each other up.

Thank you!
